As a competitiveness cluster, Xylofutur is aimed at fostering innovative projects for the benefit of Aquitaine forest-timber-paper sector, from forestry to finished products (e.g. logging, sawing, planing, plywood manufacturing, pulp and paper processing...). It was founded in 2005 thanks to the CAP FOREST partnership and the Federation of Aquitaine wood industries (FIBA).
Xylofutur members wish to achieve excellence in terms of:
- Solid wood products for construction, housing improvement, decoration and packaging;
- Products made from organic fiber or by chemically modifying ligno-cellulosic components, thus increasing the use of plant molecules and expanding the applications of cellulose from maritime pine;
- Responsible management of planted forests, so as to drive economic development.
Xylofutur brings together French companies (Gascogne Wood, ONF, Gascogne Paper, Sifland, Tembec...), foreign companies (Egger-Rol Finsa, Fonmarty, Isoroy, Premdor, Smurfit Kappa...), competence centres (CNRS , schools of architecture, École Supérieure du Bois, INRA, Cemagref, Haroun Tazieff technical school, Universities of Bordeaux, Pau and Pays de l’Adour ...), as well as local authorities, including the Regional council of Aquitaine.
